The Phoenix Collection
(WA What a Difference a Friend Makes) Art Contest and Exhibit

This contest is a consumer-developed, touring multimedia art exhibit. We believe that art – whether painted, danced, sung or captured on film -- is a neutralizing medium for people to share their personal stories and give the general public visions of understanding of mental health challenges (mental illnesses) and recovery.

The Organizers

Mental Health Action is a statewide consumer only membership organization in Washington State. We are also a 501(c)3 organization with the IRS (EIN 61-1595689). Our membership is made up entirely of individuals with mental health challenges (mental illnesses). Eighty-six percent (86%) of our Board is comprised of adults who have or who do receive mental health services. Membership on the Board is quite diverse as we are a lifespan organization for adults (youth-in-transition; adults and older adults). Members of MHA are from every area of the state and include veterans, ethnic minorities, physically challenged, GLBT2S, youth-in-transition, older adults and adults, from urban, suburban and rural areas. Our Board reflects our membership. We are dedicated to transforming the mental health system by being a change agent regarding Policy and Plan development that promote hope, recovery and resiliency among individuals with mental health challenges.

Our mission is to facilitate consumer driven recovery through self-help and mental health advocacy. We do this by being a voice of and encouraging consumers to advocate on their own behalf about mental health recovery and policy issues. We offer expert level training for peers (consumers) to serve as trainer resources and spokespeople for mental health issues and recovery. We plan to become an exemplary clearing house for peer recovery and wellness resources. Currently, we offer both online and phone resources. More....
